Key Issues

Matthew Levine is passionately committed to addressing key issues that impact the lives of the people in Missouri and across the United States. His vision encompasses a fair and nondiscriminatory education, a more prosperous economy, and a better healthcare system for all Americans.

Fair and Nondiscriminatory Education

I truly believe that education in the United States must be improved to support greater economic mobility. I support scaling up effective tutoring models through national service programs, fellowships, volunteers, and high-quality virtual tutoring. I also advocate for free breakfast and lunch for all students regardless of income to assure that every student grows with a healthy lifestyle. Getting a healthy balance of nutritious foods helps the growing body and young minds so they can get the most out of their education. I also believe in ensuring opportunities to combine college preparatory academics with technical training and workplace experience to prepare students for the jobs of the future.

About 1 in 3 undergrads receive Pell Grants which includes 10,235 Missourians. Pell Grants help make college more affordable to those less fortunate. These investments in the future generations will help grow the economy and our middle class by allowing them to gain a higher education and prepare for the workforce. Republican's cuts to education would jeopardize the futures of students who use Pell Grants to help afford their education.

Healthcare For All

I plan to fight for the right of all Americans to have the best possible healthcare. I aim to strengthen the insurance marketplace, expand financial assistance, and address affordability issues. My plans include considering state-level innovation, tax credits, and ensuring pre-existing condition protections. One in five Missourians rely on Medicaid, however, Congress is pushing for cuts that would gut rural care and offer tax breaks to the wealthy. Hospitals are closing all across the state, and in some parts of our 6th district, families are driving anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour just to find a hospital bed. We need to strengthen Medicaid and not cut it. We need to invest in rural healthcare so families can grow and age along with the communities they love. Healthcare access should not depend on their zip code.

Women deserve the right to choose what happens to their own body. That is just plain and simple. Politicians should not be the ones to decide how a woman lives. It is truly absurd that the will of the people is being ignored, and the politicians in both Missouri and Washington D.C. should just let the people decide for themselves.

Veterans and Military Families

My commitment to America’s servicemembers and veterans is equal to the full measure of devotion that they have committed to the United States of America.

I believe in a 21st-century Department of Veterans Affairs to deliver world-class care to all veterans and their families. I will continue to work to make certain that coordination between the VA and the Department of Defense creates a smooth transition from active duty to civilian life in order to ensure a modernized and efficient delivery of health care and pension benefits. I will work to strengthen our economy and communities by empowering veterans and connecting their unique skill sets with jobs of the future.

I will continue to stand with the military families who serve alongside their loved ones in uniform by supporting military spouses and children as they pursue education, careers, and financial opportunities. Our nation must always celebrate the sacrifice our veterans have made on our behalf by providing them with the very best quality of life when they return home.

A More Prosperous Economy

I propose an economic plan that stops billionaire tax breaks and promotes fair and equitable taxes for all Americans regardless of household income. I aim to avoid raising taxes for the less fortunate and instead focus on helping middle-class Americans, who make up a majority of the population, to stimulate economic growth. My goal is to invest in small businesses by creating good-paying jobs, attract sustainable industries, and invest in the future of our Missourians and all other Americans which would help us grow our economy and our middle class.

Agriculture and Rural Communities

Missouri farmers pride themselves on feeding the world. However, too many of them are being squeezed by Congress and the inflation they are causing. It is getting harder and harder for our farmers to break even with the trade policies flipping back and forth and America's export programs stalling. I believe in free and smart trading, not just bailouts. We need policies that put small and family-run farms first, and with the right support, rural America can once again thrive!

LGBTQA+ Rights

Everyone in America deserves to live freely and equally per our Constitutional rights. There is absolutely no exceptions. I believe whole heartedly that a true government is to protects those rights. We should not be policing who someone loves, how they identify, or how people present themselves. It is entirely their business and the government should just stay out of it. This is not to be used as a political weapon. I for one will always fight and stand for the equal protections under the law, and against any attempt to use their power to divide, discriminate, or interfere in other people's lives.

Second Amendment

I support and will defend the people's right to the Second Amendment. However, in most recent years, firearms are currently the leading cause of death in children in the United States. This is no longer just about politics, or sending out prayers to the families of the deceased. This is about making a change and protecting our loved ones. There are simple ways that we can protect our Second Amendment rights, as well as having public safety. We should be setting age restrictions on who should be able to carry weapons. Background checks to make sure certain individuals cannot carry because they lost those rights by violating the laws. We should be encouraging safe storage of our weapons. Responsible gun ownership is a simple request, and common sense reforms will help keep everyone safe.
